Ancient Hoysala Shree Doddagaddavalli Mahalakshmi Devi Temple
The Ancient Hoysala Shri Doddagaddavalli Mahalakshmi Devi Temple is a remarkable 12th-century temple located at Doddagaddavalli in Hassan district, Karnataka. It is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi and is regarded as one of the earliest surviving examples of Hoysala temple architecture. The temple was commissioned around 1113 CE during the reign of Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana by the merchant Kullahana Rahuta and his wife Sahaja Devi.
The temple is particularly unique because of its Chatushkuta design, meaning it has four shrines arranged around a common hall. The main shrine houses Goddess Lakshmi, while the other shrines are associated with Kali, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The complex also contains a separate Bhairava shrine and smaller corner shrines, giving the temple an unusual collection of towers.
