Shravanbela Gola (Rural)
Shravanbela Gola (Rural), commonly known as Shravanabelagola, is a historically and spiritually significant destination in Hassan district, Karnataka. It is one of South India’s most important Jain pilgrimage centres and has been associated with Jain religion, art, architecture, and culture for more than two millennia.
The main attraction is the magnificent Gommateshwara (Bahubali) statue, a monolithic sculpture standing approximately 18 metres (58 feet) high on Vindhyagiri Hill. The statue was commissioned by Chavundaraya, a minister and commander of the Ganga dynasty, and was consecrated in 981 AD.
